This year the KDI School students had a rare opportunity to visit and explore secrets to success of another Asian Tiger – Singapore. Just the fact that 15.5% of households own at least one million US Dollars had a lot to offer for students studying economic policymaking.

The three-day trip had a packed schedule that started with a visit to the National University of Singapore (NUS), where Prof. Kenneth Paul Tan gave a lecture on economic development and public policy. On the second day Director of the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) gave a lecture on urban development and presented the city plans for the next 40 – 50 years. One of the most memorable moments for many participants was the visit to the Marina Bay Sands Hotel. Featuring three buildings connected with a large rooftop in the shape of a ship, the beautiful landmark was built by an established Korean construction company. Students also had a privilege of visiting one of the most talked about bio-medical research & development hub called One-north. This is an ongoing project of a 200-hectare business park planning to house R&D and high technology activities in the biomedical sciences, ICT and media industries.

The IFRS exposed the students to cutting-edge organizations and industries that will shape the future. On top of that, participants had an opportunity to network, brainstorm, exchange contacts and start shaping their own future of Korea.
