The Alumni Capacity Building Workshop 2025 was held from October 27 to 30 in Sejong and Seoul under the theme “Politics and Society: Conflict and Solidarity – K-Culture in Perspective.” This year’s program welcomed specially invited alumni, including five representatives from outstanding alumni associations and eight members from the top two teams of the Alumni Working Partner Program.

The workshop opened with welcoming remarks and an award ceremony led by Dean Joonkyung Kim, celebrating the accomplishments of distinguished alumni. This was followed by an insightful lecture by Professor ByoungKoo Kim, titled “Political Polarization in South Korea: Origins, Dynamics, and Implications,” which explored the underlying causes and societal impacts of political polarization in Korea. Then representatives from alumni associations and the Working Partner Program then delivered presentations, joined by KDIS students who broadened their academic perspectives through the session.

On the second day, Professor Byungjoo Kim delivered a lecture, “Polarizing Politics: Korea’s Experience & Global Implications,” offering a broader global context to Korea’s political landscape. As the program continued, participants visited the Constitutional Court, enjoyed a seal-carving experience at the Eorayeon Center, and explored HikerGround, a cultural complex combining K-POP experiences with media art. The workshop concluded with a visit to the Global Knowledge Exchange & Development Center (GKEDE) and a farewell dinner.

For returning alumni, the workshop provided a meaningful opportunity to reconnect with the KDI School community, share their achievements, and reflect on their academic journeys. For current students, it offered valuable moments to learn from alumni working across diverse countries and fields. Ultimately, the workshop strengthened connections among alumni, students, and the school, further enriching the vibrant KDI School community.
