In accordance to article 14 of the Regulations on Fire Safety Management of Public Institutions in Korea, the KDI School, with the assistance from Hansol 119 Safety Center, conducted a fire drill practice on the 17^th of April, 2015. The 15 minute drill session was conducted for the purpose of practicing the safe evacuation of school dormitory residents in case of a fire as well as ensuring that all students knew how to use fire extinguishers and fire hydrants properly.

The announcement of a fire outbreak was announced in four different languages: Korean, English, Japanese, and Chinese. Two smoke bombs were used to create a virtual fire on the rooftop of the dormitory building. All students inside the building, starting from the sixth floor, evacuated through the two evacuation stairways and into the parking lot, which was set to be an evacuation area.

After all students were evacuated, they were trained in the use of fire hydrants and fire extinguishers, which were stationed at the ground level of every dormitory building. To make sure that every resident had learned how to use fire extinguishers properly, five students volunteered to practice and show how to use them. Next, a representative from the Hansol 119 Safety Center gave an in-depth explanation on how to defend oneself and save others in a real fire incident.

At the end of the session, Professor Seong-Jae Chung, Associate Dean of the KDI School, gave a speech. He noted that the fire drill was important for all dormitory residents as it was related to their very lives and their safety. He also encouraged all students to participate in the next fire drill, as to keep awareness alive and strong.
