Following up on the GLiMPSE seminar held in March by KU Leuven in Belgium, ESSEC Business School invited the partner schools to France from October 21^st to 23^rd. As the Korea-EU Education Project is in its middle of the phase, partner schools (KDI School, Seoul National University Graduate School of International Studies, ESSEC Business School and KU Leuven) came together to discuss issues on student exchanges and internal administrative matters.

On the first day of the seminar, Professor Anne-Claire Pache, Dean of Academic Programs and Professor Christian Koenig, Dean of International Affairs and Professor Charles Cho greeted the guests from the partner schools. ESSEC is a private business school established around 100 years ago which aims to foster global business leaders with academic excellence, entrepreneurial mindset and humanistic values. Afterwards, Professor Radu Vranceanu, Former Dean of Research and Professor and Professor Herve Bourdais joined the discussion on developing the research collaboration.

Professor Vranceanu described ESSEC as major research institution in France and each of the academic field has its own autonomy in research. In relation to the research collaboration, Professor Bourdais further explained one of the research programs at the Institute for Research and Education on Negotiation (IRENE) called CODEV (companies and development) research program.

The program is to study to what extent and under what criteria companies can contribute to the sustainable development of areas where they operate, especially in areas of great poverty and/or social fragility. It basically investigates their ethical and political responsibilities, as well as how can companies’ contribute to regional development and impact on the societal environment, and how should way of doing business change in order to ensure long-term sustainability in emerging countries.

The second day of the seminar started with the project meeting amongst the partners. Mrs. Patricia Moreau, project adviser from European Commission attended the meeting as an advisory panel to monitor the progress of the project. The afternoon session was filled with the events held by Korean Student Association. Students who are interested in Korea and Korean culture participated as audience and the Korea Student Association shared their views on the similarities and difference of the two cultures. Both the two Korean partners participated in the event to introduce the GLiMPSE program as well as their schools.

The last day of the seminar, KDI School visited KU Leuven in Belgium for additional information session for those Belgium students interested in the GLiMPSE program. The official schedule of the meeting ended with the dinner with KDI School students and Seoul National University students studying at KU Leuven. Overall, both the students studying at ESSEC and KU Leuven showed high satisfaction on the quality of education as well as their living environment.

The next GLiMPSE seminar will be held at Seoul National University in March 2016.
