Chuseok, also known as the Korean Thanksgiving Day, is one of the biggest holidays in Korea. Up to this day, it is held to celebrate the good harvest of the year. Family members from near and far get together to share food and stories and to hold a memorial service in honor of their ancestors. Since Chuseok is the day with the 15^th of the eight month on the lunar calendar, it fell on September 27^th this year.

“Chuseok is a big holiday because it has a special meaning for family reunion. It is time for gathering and sharing,” said Ms. Jaesoon Lee, Head of the Students Affairs Division. To feel and share the spirit of Chuseok, every student living in KDI School dormitory shared the special holiday food with each other. Students enjoyed a kind of Korean traditional rice cake called “Songpyeon” and a sweet rice beverage called “Sikhye.” Furthermore, to celebrate this big holiday, the Dormitory Assistants provided an unforgettable weekend for international students. On Saturday, September 26^th, they planned a cultural trip to the ‘2015 Baekje Cultural Festival’ held in Gongju and Buyeo.

On Saturday, September 26^th, students spent all day attending the ‘2015 Baekje Cultural Festival,’ enjoying the various events offered by the organizers of the festival. Especially students had a chance to participate the ‘Memorial Service for the Four Kings of Baekje,’ which commemorates the four kings who ruled during the golden age of Baekje dynasty.  Student could deepen their knowledge and understand the Korean Culture as well. On the Movie Night of September 27^th, students had the opportunity to gather at Chunji Lounge for enjoying the movies provided.

Overall, Chuseok holiday provided a good opportunity for all KDI School students to experience the traditional Korean culture.
