Korea and Me

My name is Waode Diah Anjani and I am 2011 Spring Student from Indonesia. I finished my master degree in Public Policy in 2012. While pursuing my degree I also involved in internship project held by Korea Development Institute. My work was helping the consultant in KDI regarding consultation projects between Indonesia Government under Ministry of Finance and Bank Indonesia to form Financial Service Authority named OJK. I was so grateful that I could contributed in helping Indonesian government and KDI Consultant in establishing Indonesia FSA, since this was the part of my concentration in KDI School which is Financial Market and Regulated. Finally the Indonesia Financial Service Authority named OJK was established in 2013.

In this essay, I would take a topic about Korea, especially my experiences in cooperative programs or projects with the Government of Korea or other Korean institutions.

After finishing my internship as well as graduating from KDI, I came back to Indonesia at the end of 2012 and working for Korea Trade Centre (KOTRA) for approximately six months. I worked as research staff helping Korean Companies to do business in Indonesia as well as finding information regarding B2B between Indonesian Companies and Korean Companies. I used my knowledge while studying in Korea to understand what the Korea Entrepreneurs needs to meet with the Indonesian Companies. For me, it is a fascinated experience, because after studying in KDI, I could directly work for KOTRA and contributed in Korea-Indonesia Economy Corporation.  From six month experiences working in KOTRA what I have learnt at that time is the business opportunities of Korean Companies to enlarge business in Indonesia is so big. It is proved now in 2019, I can see Korean products is everywhere in Indonesia and the Korean wave has reached its ultimate goal in Indonesia. While doing work in KOTRA I also involved in Halal Certification Program for Korean Companies, I became a part in the team to interpret the MUI Procedure in order to gain Halal Certification. And now, I can see many Korean products in local market already certified halal.

After working in KOTRA, I moved to my current company. Currently I am working in my company Clearing and Guarantee Corporation (KPEI) a subsidiary of Indonesia Stock Exchange which has rule to clear and guarantee in stock exchange transaction. We had several projects and corporation with Korean Company. One of projects is consultation project with Korea Securities Depository (KSD) starting in 2013 regarding the establishment of Repurchase Option Market and Securities Lending Borrowing Market. Why my office had chosen KSD as consultant because the REPO market in Korea is very attractive, that is why my company was very enthusiastic to cooperate with KSD.  I was a part of the team, and I was so delightful to help my company doing consultation with Korean Company based on my experience studying in Korea. My contribution in this consultation project was as Project Manager and Business Analyst. I was part of the team to gather requirements to create business specification and establish the market. I also used my policy analysis knowledge while studying in KDI especially when doing research for REPO Market in Indonesia. It is not easy to establish new market in the Industry, but as project manager I should have capabilities to gather information and make the product interesting. I conducted research through FGD forum with participants, introduce the new product and service. During the projects, we have several meeting with KSD teams,  I also introduce Korean culture to my team in order to ease them to communicate with consultants.

In addition after the consultation project finished in 2015, the KSD offered the social project by giving a Korean language program for the employees of KPEI, Stock Exchange and Central Custody.  At this time I also joint the language program to improve my Korean language for one year, since I already learnt about Korean Language before. I also encouraged my colleagues to participate in this program since learning Korean language is so fun and interesting.

Other Activities that I recognized as my achievements after studying in Korea that I had successfully become the Project Manager for Repurchase Option which had been implemented in 2018. Through ups and down of business and system development and with my practical knowledge, me and my team has implement the new product named “ Triparty Repo Service”.

In addition, currently I was a part of the team in developing Blockchain in Capital market, I was representative from my office working with consultant from Australia to gather the information about current business process which can be transform into Blockchain Technology. In addition, currently I am involved as a business team to establish Central Counterpart for OTC Derivative as part of G20 Commitment after Financial Global Crisis in 2008.

Regarding my efforts to improve Korean Brand in Indonesia, I always encourage my friends and office colleagues to visit Korea. I helped them to make itinerary for traveling and introduce them the Korean Cultures. Regarding my activities with Korean Alumni in Indonesia, I used to meet with other alumni in Jakarta. We had gathering in April 2018 with representatives from KDI School, and some other small gathering with Indonesian alumni and KDI alumni from Korean and Uzbekistan who currently working in Jakarta.
