At the KDI School, learning is accompanied by various extra-curricular activities essential for a healthy lifestyle, career development, and understanding cultures from across the world. In this bulletin, I interviewed club representatives who are engaged in sporting activities at the KDI school. Grab a cup of coffee or tea, and join us as we take a deep dive and reveal these clubs in this conversation.

Meet Dilek Avci (MPM 2022), the representative of the Frisbee Club. Tell us some details about Frisbee as a sport.

Ultimate Frisbee is a non-contact team sport that provides a good opportunity to engage in co-ed games. Thus, the club also allows for female KDIS students to play a competitive sport in a friendly environment. Another important characteristic of this sport is that it is self-refereed, so if there are any disagreements, we discuss and resolve it shortly in line with the spirit of the game, reinforcing the community-building aspect of the sport.

The KDI School Ultimate Frisbee Club is proud of itself for holding regular practices twice a week during the whole semester. We play Frisbee together and stay healthy! Since its launch this semester, the KDIS Ultimate Frisbee Club has become a new hub for students to socialize and have fun—meeting the main aims of the Club.

Now, let's hear from the Fitness Club, represented by Ebou Jobe (MPP 2022). Could you tell readers about the KDIS Fitness Club?

The KDI School fitness club was officially established in October 2022, with over 20 active international students registered. The club aims to maintain a balanced lifestyle for students between academics and fitness. Club members engage in daily cross-fitness exercise routines with the support and instruction of the club head and assistants. Activities conducted by the Club are usually held in the indoor gym facility, where students can engage in fitness programs and support one another in completing their workout tasks to meet their goals.

The Fitness Facility provided by the KDI School is equipped with state-of-earth fitness equipment, such as treadmills, spinning cycles, bench press machines, dumbbells, barbells, squat machines, lat pulldown machines, chest press machines, ellipticals, bicep curl machines, and many more.

I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to KDIS for providing this facility at no cost. As the representative, I call on all students to join our exercise sessions for a healthy lifestyle. Everyone is warmly welcome.

Let's move on to the Football Club, the most famous sport at the KDI School, represented by Emmanuel Simbo Kamara (MDP, 2022). Could you tell us about your club and some of the activities this semester?

The KDIS Football Club is a club that incorporates perhaps the largest number of students, both male and female. Its aim is to foster a strong student community, promote a healthy lifestyle, and reduce stress levels at the school through sporting activities.

Over the course of the semester, the KDIS soccer team has also been seeking to extend relationships from outside the school’s confines by organizing friendly soccer games against Hanbart University. The intent of this event was to give students the opportunity to meet and establish a network with other university students from outside of KDI School.

Furthermore, great activities have also been conducted by the Soccer Club on campus. The interdepartmental football tournament was a thrilling soccer event that attracted many students, along with KDI school staff. Special guests for this day included Associate Dean Professor Kim Donseok, Professor Liu Cheol, and Professor Josh Merfield, who acted as the match officiator. The event ended with a win for MDP/MIPD over MPP/MPM, although every student danced in celebration of a successful friendly meet.

Finally, football has the power to unite us all, hence, KDI School's Soccer Club is a platform that seeks to connect students from different regions, professional backgrounds, genders, and races to enjoy sports at KDIS as we fulfill the primary cause on campus.
