A Day of Sports, Sun, and Student Bonding at the Sea.

“This is what student life should feel like—carefree, connected, and full of sand.” – Precious, a beach trip participant.

On a bright Sunday morning, with blue skies above and summer just beginning to show its charm, over thirty KDI School students boarded a bus bound for Daecheon Beach in Boryeong City. What awaited them was more than just a change of scenery. It was a day of community, recreation, and joy, carefully organized by the Frisbee, Volleyball, and Hiking clubs.

Against a backdrop of crashing waves, warm sand, and endless laughter, the three clubs brought their unique flavors to the event, transforming the beach into a playground of friendship, movement, and unforgettable memories.

From Hills to Waves—and a Taste of the Sky

The day began with a scenic coastal trail walk.  Students soaked in the fresh sea breeze and snapped photos with friends along the sandy shores. With shoes off and spirits up, it was the perfect warm-up for what would become a full day of activity and exploration.

On the sandy stretch near the shoreline, the Frisbee Club kicked off a series of friendly games—tosses arcing through the air, players sprinting across makeshift boundaries drawn in the sand. Laughter rang out with every dive and catch.

Not long after, the Volleyball Club took their place, setting up nets and forming spontaneous teams. There were spikes and saves, sunburns and sand-stuck high-fives. Whether seasoned players or first-timers, everyone had a role on the court.

For the adrenaline-seekers, the day offered even more. Students took turns ziplining across the beachfront, sky biking along suspended cables, and, for a few bold adventurers, paragliding above the coast, with panoramic views of the sea unfolding beneath their feet.

“I never imagined I’d go paragliding during grad school. But here I am—floating above the ocean. It was wild!” – said Maggy.

The Story Behind the Trip

According to a representative from the KDIS Frisbee Club, the inspiration for the trip was sparked by fond memories and a shared vision:

“The idea started with my friend Ega from the Music Club. We remembered how much fun everyone had on a similar trip last year and wanted to recreate that experience. Our main goal was to give students a classic summer beach day and a chance to relax together before final exams and deadlines kick in.”

What began as a conversation between friends quickly turned into a multi-club collaboration:

“Since a beach trip is such a universally loved activity, we realized it was the perfect opportunity for a large-scale collaboration. Frisbee Club took the lead and invited other clubs to join so we could create a bigger, more inclusive event that truly builds a sense of community across the school.”

Beyond the Fun: Building Real Connections

“KDIS has such a diverse student body, but our demanding academic schedules can sometimes keep us in small circles,” the club representative shared. “A refreshing trip like this breaks down those barriers. It puts people from different programs, countries, and clubs together in a relaxed setting where real friendships can form.”

More than a simple escape from Sejong routines, the trip gave students the space to simply be—playful, present, and connected. Shared snacks, music playlists, card games, and ocean-side conversations made the day complete.

“We hope the students returned to campus not just refreshed, but with new friends and a feeling that they are part of a larger, more connected student body.”

Looking Ahead: Frisbee Club’s Role in Student Life

“The Frisbee Club’s core mission is always to promote an active, healthy lifestyle and teamwork,” the representative added.

“But beyond that, we see ourselves as a catalyst for a more vibrant and integrated student life. This trip is a perfect example. We didn’t just organize a sports event—we led a large-scale community experience.”

Looking forward, the club plans to continue weekly Frisbee sessions while also expanding into more collaborative, inclusive events. Whether through sports, adventure, or social gatherings, their mission remains clear: to build a positive, memorable, and deeply connected KDIS experience for all.

As the Sun Set: Memories Made

As evening approached and golden light stretched across the waves, students packed their bags with sandy shoes, sun-kissed skin, and full hearts.

“These are the moments we’ll remember. Not just the lectures—but the laughter.” – Volleyball Club member.

The trip closed with a group photo, a round of thank-yous, and promises to organize more inter-club collaborations in the coming months. Whether you came to hike, to spike, to fly, or to float, the beach reminded everyone what it means to belong. At the end of a long semester, if you’re looking for the perfect beach location for the upcoming vacation, check out Boryeong!
