A cohort of dreamers arrived in Korea with hope in their hearts; now they leave as leaders ready to change the world.

As another academic chapter closes at KDI School, the graduating KOICA scholars of the 2024 cohort stand at the threshold of a new beginning. Their graduation is more than a ceremony; it is a heartfelt celebration of courage, resilience, and the belief that education can reshape one’s life and community. For these students, coming to Korea was a leap of faith, and today, each of them marks the fulfillment of a dream once held from afar.

For Elena Dimas (2024 MDP), the journey became meaningful the moment she found her “family in Korea.” She shared, “The moment that truly touched my heart was finding my friends: Sofy, Patria, Priscilla, Andy, and Chaea, who supported me through every step. Their kindness and love made this experience incredibly special.” Elena’s story reflects one of the most beautiful aspects of KDI School: the friendships that form across cultures, languages, and continents, turning the campus into a home away from home.

For Elitasari Apriyani (2024 MPP), the transformative moments happened beyond the classroom. She vividly remembers her participation in the Korea Field Research and Study program during spring 2025. “We visited the Saemaul Undong Theme Park in Gumi to learn about its role in Korea’s development. That experience opened a new door for me. I later took Korean Social Development, which became one of my favorite courses.” She describes her journey at KDI School as one that goes far beyond academics: “My journey is more than studying, it is experiencing Korea at its fullest.”

Her memories also include warm personal experiences, such as the Home Visiting+ Program: “My buddy brought us to the Korean east coast, and I will never forget that train ride with the most amazing view.” These experiences shaped not only her academic interests but also her appreciation of Korea’s beauty, culture, and people.

Meanwhile, Sohel Chakma (2024 MPP) found his most meaningful moments not in a single event but in countless interactions with peers from all over the world. As he explained, “I participated in almost all the clubs and forum events, so my friendships grew stronger. I cannot choose only one memorable moment; there are many that truly touched my heart.”

For Sohel, studying in Korea was a journey of personal transformation. “I used to be very introverted, but here I stepped out of my comfort zone. Now I feel more confident and prepared to take on bigger responsibilities.” Korea, he said, helped him dream bigger and believe more strongly in his potential to contribute meaningfully to his country.

For Davaajav Javkhlant (2024 MPP), the heart-touching moment came during class. She described the realization that her studies held deep, practical value back home: “I suddenly understood policy issues in a new way, seeing how theory connects to the real challenges in my country. Every new concept felt like a tool I could use in the future.”

Her time in Korea helped her understand not only development but also herself. “This experience taught me to think more deeply and look at problems from different angles,” she shared. With a stronger sense of purpose, she now dreams of creating policies that can genuinely improve people’s lives in Mongolia.

As graduation approaches, each student reflects on the version of themselves who first arrived in Korea, filled with hopes and fears.

Elena would say to her younger self, “We are going to make it… Korea will welcome us with open arms.”

Elitasari would remind herself, “Grab every opportunity in front of you and enjoy Korea.”

Sohel would say, “Everything you’re worried about will fall into place. Trust the process and enjoy the journey.”

And Davaajav would reassure her past self that, “Every moment will be worth it. You will grow in ways you never imagined.”

Across their diverse backgrounds and personal stories, a shared message shines through: gratitude.

The scholars express their deepest appreciation to KOICA, whose vision and support turned their dreams of studying in Korea into reality. Through KOICA’s generosity, these students gained not only academic training but also global exposure, lifelong friendships, and the chance to reimagine their futures.

They also extend their heartfelt thanks to KDI School, a place that challenged, inspired, and guided them. From rigorous coursework to cultural immersion programs, from supportive faculty to an international community of peers, KDI School provided an environment where students could grow academically and personally.

As these scholars prepare to return to their home countries, they carry far more than diplomas. They take with them strengthened confidence, renewed purpose, and a profound commitment to contribute to the development of their nations.

Their time in Korea may be coming to an end, but the impact of this journey, made possible by KOICA and shaped by KDI School, will remain with them forever.
