1. Hosting the Korean Economic History Society's summer conference

Professor Changkeun Lee hosted the Korean Economic History Society's summer conference at KDI School. Supported financially by the Research Center for Small Business Ecosystem at Inha University, the conference featured nine presentations and eight designated discussions, covering a range of topics in historical economic development, including SME policy, human capital, and innovation. Held in Sejong, the event also attracted policy researchers from KDI, KIEP, KEEI, and KRIHS, who contributed by presenting and discussing papers from a policy perspective. Two KDIS students also introduced their work. Professor Lee plans to continue developing the economic history program and wishes for support from the school, as research on Korean economic development aligns closely with KDI School’s mission.

2. Presenting Papers at the Econometric Society Asian Meeting

Professor Changkeun Lee, David Sungho Park, and PhD student Dung Thi Kim Dung attended the Econometric Society Asian Meeting in Ho Chi Minh City, where they presented two papers on the impacts of Samsung Electronics' market entry on household and firm outcomes. Their papers explore how a big global firm's investment in a developing country motivates households to focus on primary work in the formal sector and improves firm productivity in the upstream industries.
