Hanbok, the traditional Korean attire, is a remarkable embodiment of Korea's rich cultural heritage and timeless elegance. With a history spanning over 1,600 years, Hanbok continues to captivate both locals and international admirers with its distinct beauty and symbolic significance. The exquisite craftsmanship, vibrant colors, and graceful silhouettes make Hanbok a visual masterpiece, reflecting the social and cultural values of the Korean people.

In this interview, we delve into the fascinating world of the Hanbok-wearing experience together with our MPM student from Indonesia, Shendy Revilla Putri.

Dear Shendy, could you please introduce yourself to the audience?

안녕하세요~

Hello, I’m Shendy, an MPM Spring Student from Indonesia. I am currently working at the Ministry of Transportation in Indonesia, and it is my second semester studying at the KDI School of Public Policy and Management.

How did you feel the first time you wore a traditional Korean Hanbok dress? Can you describe the experience and any emotions you had?

Personally, I really love Korean Culture, which is very rich in historical cultural heritage. When I wore Hanbok for the first time, I felt more elegant, comfortable, and confident, and I felt like I was back in the royal Joseon dynasty era.

The women's Hanbok design, which is divided into chima (skirt) and jeogori (tops), has a long style, making it suitable and comfortable to wear for everyone, including Muslim hijabers like me.

In what ways do you think wearing a Hanbok differs from wearing traditional attire in Indonesia? Are there any similarities you've noticed?

Each country has its own unique culture, including traditional attire from Indonesian and Korean cultures. Some similarities that I can mention are the selection of bright colors and various accessories in Hanbok and traditional attire from Indonesia. This exudes the natural beauty of anyone who wears it.

Previously, you mentioned that you love K-Drama! Can you share some of your favorites? :)

Yes, I enjoy K-dramas, especially the color tone selection, cinematic point of view, location selection, and the quality of the stories. My current favorite K-Dramas are Start-Up, Itaewon Class, and Crash Landing on You. However, when it comes to K-Dramas that feature Hanbok, I really have to mention "Alchemy of Souls." I highly recommend you to watch it!
