경성칼국수 - Gyeongjong Kalguksu

Spicy Kalguksu

It’s the weekend, and you are on the lookout for a hearty bowl of kalguksu? Look no further than 경성칼국수. Tucked away in the bustling Daepyeong Traditional Market, this hidden gem may take some effort to find, but it is well worth it. While the spicy kalguksu may not be for everyone, there are other options, such as the clam and perilla kalguksu, that are equally delicious. There is always a line forming in front of the restaurant whether it is lunch or dinner, so make sure to check the opening hours and get there a few minutes before opening time. Thanks to Valerie (Xu Li), a KDI student from China, we were able to find the location perfectly fine and made it right when the shop was about to open. So why not treat yourself to a warm, comforting bowl of noodles at 경성칼국수 and experience the authentic flavors of Korean cuisine?

올진스시 - Uljin Sushi (revolving belt sushi)

For sushi lovers in KDIS, 올진스시(Uljin Sushi) is a must-visit. This revolving belt sushi restaurant is perfect for those who want to sample a variety of sushi without breaking the bank. At only 1,600 won per plate (roughly 1.2 USD), guests can choose from a wide range of sushi options that are constantly rotating around the restaurant on a conveyor belt. And if you don't see what you want on the belt, don't worry - you can order sushi separately as well. The atmosphere is lively and bustling, making it a great spot for a fun meal out with friends. So, if you're in the mood for some fresh and affordable sushi, head over to Uljin Sushi and enjoy a revolving sushi experience like no other.

60계치킨 - 60 Chicken

크크크 chicken

60계치킨 is a fast food chain that has earned a reputation as a go-to spot for KDI students in Sejong. The place is renowned for its wide range of flavors, friendly owners, and a short distance from the university, making it a popular dinner destination among friends. Only two months ago, the BTS member Jungkook ordered the 크크크 (CCC) chicken during one of his live streams, causing a spike in orders that made 60 Chicken one of the most recognized chicken places in Korea and around the world. At 60 Chicken, you can choose between bone-in or boneless drums and wings and try out a variety of sauces that range from sweet and spicy to tangy and savory. So, if you're looking for some delicious fried chicken with a side of K-pop fandom, head over to 60 Chicken and enjoy a meal that will leave you both satisfied and starstruck.

유로갈비김치찌개 - Euro Rib Kimchi Stew

Kimchi jjigae

As someone who loves putting meat and noodles in any stew, I was happy to find out about the 유로갈비김치찌개 from Weii, a KDI student from Indonesia. One of the restaurant's standout dishes is the kimchi stew, made with tender chunks of beef short ribs and a flavorful broth. The kimchi jjigae and meat here have such an addictive, deep flavor. In particular, tofu and mushrooms were also included, adding to the texture and richness of the broth.

본가왕뼈감자탕세종시청점 - Bonga Wang Pork Bone Stew

감자탕 - Kamjatang

Nestled near Sejong City Hall, 본가왕뼈감자탕세종시청점(Bonga Wang Pork Bone Stew) is a favorite among locals and visitors alike. This restaurant is renowned for its signature dish - a piping hot and spicy pork bone stew (kamjatang) that is slow-cooked for hours, resulting in tender meat and a rich, flavorful broth. The restaurant also offers a variety of sides and rice to complement the hearty stew. I learned about Bonga restaurant from our fellow Mongolian student, Nyamdavaa, who presented the place as his favorite restaurant during the Korean Language and Culture II class.

내토생선구이- Naeto Wagko Bridge Grilled Fish

Kodari fish (kodari jjim)

If you're a fish lover and in the mood for something delicious, head on over to Naeto Wagko Bridge Grilled Fish in Sejong. This restaurant is a popular destination for locals and visitors alike, offering some of the freshest and most delicious fish dishes in town. One of the standout dishes at Naeto Wagko is their Kodari fish (kodari jjim). It's a spicy fish dish that packs a flavorful punch with every bite. The fish is cooked to perfection, tender, and juicy with just the right amount of heat. Pair it with some cauldron rice and you're in for a real treat. But that's not all - Naeto Wagko also serves up an amazing grilled mackerel that's sure to satisfy any seafood craving. The fish is cooked to perfection, crispy on the outside and flaky on the inside, with a delicious smoky flavor that's hard to resist.

육산 - Yuksan

Korean BBQ

If you're a meat lover, then Yuksan is the perfect spot to indulge in some of the best pork and beef dishes in Sejong. This charming restaurant is located near the Geumgang River, offering a breathtaking view of the water while you dine. It's no surprise that Professor Lee Junsoo considers this place  his favorite restaurant. The meat is undoubtedly delicious, but what makes Yuksan truly special is the delectable side dishes that accompany each meal. One must-try dish is the soybean paste stew, which perfectly complements the meaty flavors. Whether you're in the mood for a special lunch galbi set meal or a hearty dinner, Yuksan is sure to satisfy your cravings and leave you with a memorable dining experience.

로충칭 마라탕 - Rochoongching Malatang

Malatang

Many KDI students have made Rochoongching Malatang their go-to spot for a spicy and satisfying meal. I first learned about this restaurant from my friends at the Badminton club. Since then, I have become a regular customer. The options for veggies, fish cakes, mushrooms, noodles, meat, and seafood are wide, and the sauce is perfectly seasoned with spicy peanut sauce and vinegar. The value for  money is also unbeatable, making it a great choice for students on a budget. Whether you're a spice lover or just looking for a hearty meal, Rochoongching Malatang is worth a visit.

정통춘천닭갈비 소담점 - Authentic Chuncheon Spicy Stir-fried Chicken

Cheese Dak-galbi

Dak-galbi is one of my absolute favorite dishes in Korea, and I'm not ashamed to admit that I've eaten it three days in a row just last week. The best part is that this restaurant is located just a 15-minute walk away from KDIS, making it a convenient spot for students to satisfy their cravings. You have an option of 춘천 Dak-galbi (Chuncheon) which is the classic chicken mixed with vegetables, tteok, and potatoes over the fire. While for all the cheese lovers like myself, there is an option for Cheese Dak-galbi.

용손짜장  - Yongson Jjajang

Jjajangmyeon - Noodles in black bean sauce

Yongson Jjajang is a Chinese restaurant that never fails to impress its patrons with its chewy hand-made noodles. Their signature dish, the jjajangmyeon, is a must-try, with its thick and rich black bean sauce that coats the noodles perfectly. But it's not just the noodles that are the star of the show - the sweet and sour pork and jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup) are also a crowd favorite, perfectly balancing sweet and tangy flavors. It is my buddy Ko Min Jae’s favorite restaurant - he particularly enjoys the sweet and sour pork together with jjajangmyeon.

뉴 타지마할 인도카레전문점 - Taj Mahal Indian Curry Restaurant (Halal)

Chicken tikka masala

If you're a fan of Indian cuisine or are looking for a Halal restaurant nearby, the Taj Mahal is a must-visit restaurant   a mere 30-minute walk from KDI. I went there with my friend Rahul, a KDI student from India, and we were both impressed with the range of meat options available in every dish, from chicken to beef, lamb, and even shrimp. As a foodie, my eyes were darting across the menu, and I wanted to try everything at once. But I eventually settled on the Chicken Tikka Butter Masala Curry and Chicken Biryani with Garlic Naan. The flavors were exceptional, and the spiciness was just right. The restaurant's cozy ambiance and friendly staff made it a great place to unwind and enjoy a delicious meal. I was also pleased to see the owner, who is from Pakistan, making an effort to converse with the KDIS students, which added a personal touch to the experience.

그린 피스트 - Green Feast (Vegan)

House Salad

If you're a vegan studying at KDIS and looking for a place to eat, don't worry - there are some options in Sejong city, including the Green Feast restaurant. This eatery is a favorite of Akmaral, a KDI student from Kazakhstan, who recommends their house salad. The restaurant has a limited but tasty menu, which includes dishes like tomato curry, chickpea stew, basil sandwich, and fresh juice. So, if you're looking for a healthy and satisfying vegan meal, be sure to give Green Feast a go.
