Can you briefly introduce yourself?

Hello, I'm Bonglim, a part-time MPM student at KDI School in the fall semester of 2022. Currently employed at Daejeon Technopark, a governmental organization, I focus on global expansion for small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) in Daejeon. As an ENFP, I naturally enjoy meeting people.

Can you tell us more about how you first met Vincent and the impact he had on your school life at KDIS?

In the spring semester of 2023, I had the pleasure of meeting Vincent by chance in the lecture hall. He stood out as someone who warmly greeted everyone, and our friendly exchanges gradually developed into a closer personal connection. Vincent's pure and cheerful nature has had a significant impact on my school life.

How has your friendship with Vincent influenced your perspective on cultural exchange and the importance of building connections with people from different backgrounds?

Our friendship has opened my eyes to cultures I hadn't been exposed to before. Vincent introduced me to his Ghanaian heritage, inviting me to experience traditional dishes and even introducing me to his family through video calls. This exposure emphasized to me that connections can transcend race and culture, creating a sense of family even in the midst of diversity.

Have there been any challenges or cultural differences you and Vincent have encountered, and how did you both navigate or learn from them?

I remember when Vincent invited me to his dorm and prepared his traditional dishes. Before that, my Somali friends from KDI school had invited me to their dorm and introduced me to their traditional tea. After hearing their story, Vincent expressed a desire to make his Ghanaian dish for me, even though I had no prior knowledge of Ghanaian cuisine. But it turned out that Ghanaian traditional foods are incredibly delicious!

Could you share a memorable experience or interaction with Vincent that stands out in your mind?

When I see Vincent, it seems like he knows all the friends at KDI School! Whenever we walk together, he's the first to greet someone with a smiling face. His constant bright energy is so refreshing. While Koreans tend to be somewhat reserved in their interactions, I've learned a lot from my best friend, Vincent, about being able to learn and always greet them with a smile.

In what ways did Vincent's warmth and kindness inspire you to become more engaged in school life and show affection to others?

Meeting Vincent has brought about the most significant change in me; I've become more talkative. Sometimes, in the midst of a demanding work and academic life, I used to keep silent to myself. However, having a friend who constantly messages me has made me feel like I've become a better person.

What do you think makes this friendship truly special?

One of the great things about having a friend is that they always make me feel special. It's comforting to have a friend who truly understands and appreciates a part of me. He brings laughter into my life and encourages me to approach each day more wholeheartedly. It's such a presence that goes beyond family, and the fact that such a connection exists with someone from another country also brings me joy. We're friends forever, I can't forget Vincent's words. ;)

Can you elaborate on the significance of the traditional gifts you received from Vincent?

The clothing I received from Vincent is a traditional Ghanaian attire, featuring a green background with a pattern of birds. It's made from exceptional fabric, and I can tell it's meant for special occasions. He described it as a garment of happiness that's only given to good people, and whenever I see that clothing, it makes me feel like I'm becoming a better person. It's truly unique and precious to me.

The story ends with the desire to visit Ghana. Can you share more about your aspirations and what you hope to experience during a visit to Ghana in the future?

Absolutely! One of my goals is to introduce my middle school niece, Jihyo, to Vincent. I also wish to visit Ghana and meet Vincent's family, whom I've only met through video calls. I want to gain a more concrete understanding of Ghana, including its environment, climate, and even economic news, instead of having vague images. Our current relationship has not only strengthened our personal bond but has also contributed to fostering a positive international exchange between South Korea and Ghana.

Moreover, while my current international cooperation work is not directly connected to Ghana, I hope to expand the points of connection in the future. If personal interactions can lead to international relations, perhaps I can contribute to promoting friendly international relations. I am content with my current profession and wish to continue my happy journey at KDI School.
