Double exposure for KDIS students on 2018 Global Friendship Tour

The Hyundai Motor Group, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, provides tours for international students studying at institutions all over South Korea to expose them to Korea’s culture and development process.

Hyundai collaborates with the Korea Field Research and Study (KFRS) program at KDI School to provide an exciting experience for KDI School students under the theme “Global Friendship Tour”.

The KFRS program organizes these trips for international students to expose them to more knowledge about Hyundai Motors and Korean culture. So it was that on the bright chilly morning of October 30, an enthusiastic group of 40 KDIS students set off on the Hyundai 2018 Global Friendship Tour.

The tour began with a visit to the Jeonju vehicle assembly plant. The students were briefly introduced to Hyundai Motors, its vision and mission and economic impact, and taken around first the truck factory and then the bus factory. These are highly mechanized factories operated by robots alongside some human factory workers.

The students were then taken to the Hyundai Xcient showroom where they had discussions with the staff about Hyundai Motors and the sports teams it supports in South Korea.
After a sumptuous lunch, the tour participants were taken to Balsan village in Gwangju City where they were introduced to the art of water painting on scrolls. They even did some water painting on scrolls.
What followed was a first for almost all the students on the tour. They were introduced to Taekwondo at Honam University. A beautiful Taekwondo show was presented by the Honam University students and the tour participants themselves could learn some taekwondo moves. It was an experience they found most exciting.

One student said, “This has been a very interesting experience. I loved the food and the chance to relax after the midterm exams’ pressure. Hyundai was great. KDI School surely provides us with excellent exposure.”

The tour ended with a tasty, traditional meal and the students returned to KDI School happy, tired, and grateful to the organisers for the many unique opportunities they had been accorded.
