As the new spring semester approaches, we look forward to welcoming a fresh cohort of students ready to embark on their KDI School journey. Before we begin this new chapter, graduating students reflect on how their time at KDI School reshaped their perceptions of life and careers. Here’s what they wanted to share.

Part 1: How KDI School Changed Their Lives and Careers

HIRAMONY, Marufa Sultana Khan (2023 MDP, Bangladesh)

KDI School has helped me to discover the meaning of life as the countless hours I spent in the KDIS Library expanded my knowledge and exposed me to new ideas that influenced my perspective on life and career. On a career level, the exposure to policy-driven solutions and real-world applications instilled confidence in my ability to create meaningful impact, both locally and internationally. Beyond academics, the friendships I built with people from countries across the world were equally transformative. My time at KDIS also gave me the confidence to pursue personal growth, from learning to ride a bicycle to mastering a new language. These milestones, combined with the insights I gained, shaped my purpose-driven approach to both life and career. Also, donating my book “Confession of Non-Love” to the KDI School Library was one of the most memorable experiences of my life.

GAMA, Enelless Namagowa (2024 MDP, Malawi)

My journey at KDI School has been transformative. It fundamentally reshaped my understanding of academic and professional development in different ways I couldn’t imagine. I believe that KDI School can be viewed as a comprehensive environment of learning, growth, and global exposure.

The academic environment at KDIS was revolutionary as the faculty are not just professors, but world-renowned experts and thought leaders who are now my mentors, directly sharing their deep insights and real-world experiences. The opportunities extended far beyond traditional classroom learning. The conferences I attended were intellectual crossroads where brilliant minds from various disciplines converged, challenging my existing perspectives and expanding my understanding of complex global issues. Organized school trips were another dimension of learning that significantly contributed to my personal and professional growth.

These experiences fundamentally altered my perception not just of education, but of my own potential and the broader socio-economic landscape of my home country. KDIS didn't just provide an education; it offered a transformative journey that reshaped my understanding of career development, global interconnectedness, and personal growth.

FIRMANSYAH, Arief (2023 MDP, Indonesia)

Before coming here, I saw life as a linear path/steps you had to take to achieve success. But the diversity of ideas, perspectives, and experiences I encountered here taught me that life is far more dynamic. Friendship at KDI School was another profound lesson. The connections I built here went beyond academic discussions; they became a source of support, inspiration, and joy. Sharing late-night study sessions, cultural exchanges, and even moments of vulnerability with people from different corners of the world made me realize how essential human connection is in every aspect of life.

Career-wise, KDIS helped me connect the dots between knowledge and action. I’ve realized that careers aren’t just about personal achievement but about contributing to larger systems, whether public policy, global development, or any other field.

QUIROZ, Octavio Alejandro (2024 MPP, Nicaragua)

KDI School was truly a transformative chapter in my life, shaping not only my academic and professional perspective but also deeply influencing my personal growth. The dynamic learning environment ranging from interactive classrooms led by globally recognized experts to the rich array of conferences and organized school trips, provided invaluable insights into complex global issues and practical applications. Beyond academics, the friendships I built with peers from diverse backgrounds broadened my worldview and enriched my understanding of different cultures, creating lifelong connections.

One of the most unexpected yet rewarding aspects was the opportunity for personal growth. From learning new skills, like cycling, to picking up a new language, KDI School encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone and embrace challenges. This holistic experience didn’t just prepare me for a career; it empowered me with the confidence to make a meaningful impact, locally and internationally.

ONYEME, Chidiebere Joshua (2024 MIPD, Nigeria)

My time in KDI School is a blend of learning, personal growth, and cultural experience. The participatory teaching style and the freedom to choose courses that align with my career and personal goals transformed my student life experience from a series of obligations into a meaningful journey toward my dreams.

ZIABAKHSH, Zeinab Sadat (2024 MIPD, Iran)

Studying at KDI School changed my point of view about my profession, the possible future for my proficiency, and my potential capacities as I started to think about professional problems from a new point of view. About my personal life, I found opportunities to have time for myself and experience independent life, with travels and adventures.

Chetna (2024 MIPD, India)

KDI School broadened my perspectives by exposing me to diverse ideas, people, and challenges. It fostered critical thinking, self-discovery, and resilience while refining my career aspirations. Interactions with peers and mentors shaped my values, expanded my horizons, and inspired personal growth, providing clarity and confidence for life and professional pursuits.

Part 2: Advice for New Students

HIRAMONY, Marufa Sultana Khan (2023 MDP, Bangladesh)

My advice would be to explore the Library: The KDIS Library is a treasure trove of knowledge that can broaden your understanding of your field and beyond.

Build global connections, pursue personal growth, and use your time at KDIS to explore new skills and hobbies. Also, find balance; While academics are essential, make time for building relationships and exploring your personal interests. In addition, document your journey and stay open to growth.

GAMA, Enelless Namagowa (2024 MDP, Malawi)

My advice would go as follows:

Embrace the comprehensive learning environment: Don't just attend classes—fully immerse yourself in the atmosphere KDI School provides.

Leverage international opportunities: KDI School offers a diverse group of people from different countries and different professionals. I encourage you to approach these opportunities with intentionality.

Take advantage of comprehensive support systems: the school invests heavily in creating a supportive learning environment. Don't hesitate to utilize academic support resources, engage with career counseling services, and lastly, participate in personal development workshops.

Cultivate a global mindset: Your time at KDI School is an opportunity to reframe your understanding of your field, your country, and your potential. Remember, you're not just acquiring a degree, you're developing a comprehensive worldview that will distinguish you in your future career.

FIRMANSYAH, Arief (2023 MDP, Indonesia)

My advice is first, to have an open mind and a humble heart. You’ll meet people who will challenge your beliefs and perspectives in the best possible ways.

Second, take the time to build genuine relationships. The people here aren’t just classmates but future collaborators, mentors, and lifelong friends.

Finally, don’t be afraid to fail. KDI School is a safe space to experiment, to ask difficult questions, and to push boundaries. Whether in the classroom or a team project, every stumble is a chance to learn something new about yourself. Trust the process, and remember—you’re not alone in this journey. Everyone here is rooting for your success.

QUIROZ, Octavio Alejandro (2024 MPP, Nicaragua)

Dive into the Experience: Fully immerse yourself in KDI School’s diverse and resource-rich environment. Engage actively in classes, discussions, and school trips—they are not just academic activities but stepping stones to real-world understanding.

Build Global Connections: Take time to connect with your peers. Their experiences will offer fresh perspectives that could reshape your thinking.

Balance is Key: While academics are vital, don’t forget to explore Korea, develop hobbies, and enjoy the journey. These moments will create memories and learning experiences that last a lifetime.

Stay Open to Growth and Document Your Journey: Challenges are inevitable but embracing them will lead to profound personal and professional development.

Whether through writing, photos, or videos, keep a record of your experiences. This will serve as a cherished memory and inspire others back home to pursue their dreams.

ONYEME, Chidiebere Joshua (2024 MIPD, Nigeria)

My candid advice to the new students is to learn and also be an active member of the school community. This will help students refine interpersonal and communication skills.

Please do not select courses based on the ease of getting good grades rather, select courses that align with your aspirations; that way, you will craft a personalized and purposeful experience that will shape who you become, both inside and outside the classroom.

ZIABAKHSH, Zeinab Sadat (2024 MIPD, Iran)

I would tell them that life in KDIS is short, study and learn as much as you need. Yet, the most important thing about living in KDIS is that there are many opportunities for different interests (from different sports to any social community). Use this opportunity to enhance your communication and enjoy your life as much as you can.

Chetna (2024 MIPD, India)

For the advice, I would advise them to manage time wisely, focus on understanding, and seek help when needed. Build connections and join activities for growth. Balance academics and health, eat well, sleep enough, and manage stress. Stay organized, disciplined, and open to feedback. Set goals, learn extra skills, and enjoy the journey while making lasting memories.

As we begin 2025, we thank our graduates for sharing their inspiring journeys and wisdom. A new class is ready to create their own stories at KDI School. To the new students: embrace the opportunities, challenges, and growth ahead—your journey has just begun.
